The Fighting Hellfish hosted an impromptu holiday party
this past Thursday--the last 40k Thursday of the year. There was
a classic game of good versus evil, Imperial versus Chaos, in a
winner-take-all megabattle that was accompanied by egg nog, sugar
cookies, candy cane and tasty smackdown.
Following
a Fighting Hellfish tradition, the city of Konevgrad was once again
the site of full frontal carnage. The game was 6,000 points per
side with 10 players in all. To our amazement, we completed 4 full
turns in 3 hours. For a full report, visit the Gallery section.
Looking
back on the year, it's been a stellar 2003. The Fighting Hellfish
ran our first RTT, hosted the 40k event PlasmaBall Run at both Gamesday
and Kublacon, represented at 3 Grand Tournaments in two countries
and appeared in White Dwarf. We built a bunch of new terrain, ran
3 leagues, added Warhammer Fantasy to our repertoire, and launched
the Hellfish website that now boasts over 70 pages.
Coming
in 2004 look for a new 40k league starting in January and possibly
another Fantasy league starting shortly afterwards. Games Day Los
Angeles is a mere 4 months away, and the Fighting Hellfish will
once again show our colors with PlasmaBall Run II.
We're
also in the preliminary planning stages for the 2nd Annual Rogue
Trader Tournament, BFG Konevgrad 2004, Tanksgiving II and Toys for
Grots. It's going to be a very full year.
Many
thanks to everyone who made 2003 such a great success and we hope
you can join us soon.
As
a reminder, Matchplay will be closed on Christmas and New Year's
Day.
Happy
Holidays and Happy New Year.
See
you in 2004.

The new Fighting Hellfish 40k Mission Generator kicked
off last week to a packed house. All new craziness like diagonal
deployment, changing missions and new objectives--they were all
there and embraced with open arms. All in all, it was a resounding
success. Make sure to let Kevin know, if anything needs to be tweaked.
This
Tuesday and Thursday will be open gaming for Fantasy and Warhammer
40k respectively. So come by and try out the new Hellfish 40k missions.
And coming next month will be a new 40k league. Talk to Ray if you
have any ideas.

Now that the Macy’s parade is over and the tree in
Union Square is lit, it’s club time.
This past Sunday was the first annual mega-tank-king-of-the-hill-battle-fiesta,
Tanksgiving. The Fighting Hellfish would like to thank Games Workshop
for providing some excellent prizes, including the limited edition
Dark Angels sergeant.
Winners:
King of the Hill: Andrew T. (prize: Chaos Predator)
Best Painted: David C. (prize: Hammerhead)
Youngblood: Eric (prize: Dark Angels Sgt)
Luckiest/Most Blow’d Up: Jeff K. (prize: Dark Angels Sgt)
Everyone had a great time, either that or they were flying high
from the bleach fumes. But we’re already planning for next
year’s "Tanksgiving II." So if you didn’t
play this year, it’s not too early to start thinking about
next year’s big tank bash.
This coming Thursday, we are proud to debut the regenerated 40k
Hellfish Mission Generator. It’s been long overdue, especially
considering the old mission list probably came out when Britney
Spears was still a musketeer. But all systems are go for a test
run this week.
Kevin B. has dug through Rogue Trader Tournament packs, Grand Tournaments
campaigns, and that crazy contraption called the "World Wide
Web” and put together a great set of 40k missions that are
fun, fair, challenging and most importantly, brand spanking new.
Make sure you stop by Matchplay this Thursday and take them for
a tryout.
There’s also talk, this Tuesday of doing a Fantasy mega battle
on the Tanksgiving terrain. Contact Andrew and Kevin B., if you’re
interested.

To make sure you can indulge in
a turkey tryptophane-induced coma this Thursday, the Hellfish will
be observing Thanksgiving and Matchplay will be closed.
Worry not, though, next week will be open gaming for Warhammer Fantasy
on Tuesday (The Briternia league is currently on hold) and open
gaming for Warhammer 40k on Thursday.
And for one day only, this coming Sunday 30 Nov at Matchplay, it
is open season on 40k tanks and vehicles. The Fighting Hellfish
is proud to host a mega motor bash, aptly entitled, Tanksgiving.
Take a look at the new terrain here.
Talk to Ray for details. Check-in starts at noon.
But that’s not all. Oh, no. This Sunday will be a double-header.
A double feature. With double the fun. After Tanksgiving, join in
for some Blood Bowl. You heard right, Blood Bowl, in our mini-tournament,
Sunday Blood Bowl Sunday. Bring your team or use one of the loaner
teams and throw it down on the pitch.
So sneak, fib, distract, do whatever it takes to make sure you stop
by and partake in all the post-Thanksgiving festivities.
Sunday 30 Nov Schedule:
12-3 Tanksgiving
3-9 Sunday Blood Bowl Sunday
Happy Thanksgiving.

There can only be one. We are not
talking about the movie, Highlander. We are talking about High Elves.
As in Warhammer Fantasy High Elves. At last count, the Fighting
Hellfish had 3 such players: Andrew, David H. and Jeff K. Since
there can only be one, true “High Elf”, the other 2
will have to settle for lesser titles.
So here are the rankings:
(as of 11 nov)
High Elf: Jeff K.
Middle Elf: Andrew
Low Elf: David H.
Newsflash: word on the grapevine is Andrew, after
taking a thrashing from Jeff K, has sold his army to his vanquisher.
(Was that the condition of the game? If so, those were mighty high
stakes)
Looks like there's room on the ladder. Think you
deserve the title of “High Elf”? Bring your so-called
High Elves to Matchplay on Tuesday and see for yourself.
And what about the 40th millennium? Well, for
starters, open gaming will continue every Thursday at Matchplay.
For the most part, the reviews have been positive for the new Trial
Vehicle Rules. And coming soon, a new 40k league is set to debut
in January. Get your 40k ready.
Speaking of 40k, you've got to check out Bryan

Like every Thursday, we will be playing 40k at Matchplay in Mountain

For the month of August, it's all Eye of Terror, all the time.
Lock
and load people. Today is the Eye of Terror Rogue Trader Tournament
at Matchplay. It's not too late to run down to Matchplay and throw
it down. Or at least go down there and check out what happens when
armies collide.
Last
Sunday, the Games Workshop Eye of Terror Summer Tour rolled into
Matchplay. The place was rocking, so I hope you came knocking (can't
believe I just wrote that). Pictures are up in the gallery section.
Also
this coming Thursday, the Eye of Terror league continues with some
heated battles for Belis Corona. There are team rosters in the league
section--though they may be a bit outdated by now.
The
Fighting Hellfish aren't one-trick ponies. There are rumblings that
some players are adding a little Warhammer Fantasy to their repertoire.
That's right. We're talking Skaven, Elves, Bretonnians. Whatever
they are. Talk to Jeff C., if you're interested.

inform your ships that they will expect to see combat in two weeks
time.
Also,
there needs to be a General for Good and Evil. But first, we need
to figure out who's fighting on which side. When you get to Matchplay
tonight, sign up for the side you want to fight for. Afterwards,
commanders will deploy their forces.
Let
the carnage begin.

Well the 1st Fighting Hellfish/Matchplay Rogue Trader Tournament
has come and gone. And aghast! the overall winner wasn’t a
Hellfish. Proof the judges weren’t bribed enough.
Congrats to Stacey Block, the overall winner. Honorable mention
goes to Ray who won Most Worthy Adversary (aka Best Tactician in
a GT); Tommy who finished 3rd in Appearance and Don L. who got 2nd
in Theme points. And yes, the top 5 in Battle points were all Fighting
Hellfish.
It was a good time for all. With everyone a bit groggy in the morning,
spirits soon shifted by the afternoon with some good head bashin’
by the end of the day. Look for the next Fighting Hellfish/Matchplay
RTT to mark the Eye of Terror Campaign. It’s coming in August.
So start thinking how you'll be raining death and destruction.
The
Spring Training League is also over. We had over 30 players duking
it out in the league. For the next few Thursdays, come into Matchplay
for some great open gaming.

After a long, grueling weekend,
we've returned from Games Day Los Angeles. We ran the Fighting Hellfish's
very own Tank Race game, Plasmaball Run. It was a lot of fun and
the game itself was a smash hit--attracting both young and old,
newbie and veteran, male and female, cheesey and cheesier.
We're also please to announce that at Games Day
Los Angeles Donovan wiped out all 3 armies he faced in the Rogue
Trader Tournament. And to top it all off, he won Best Sportsmanship.
That was not a typo. Check out his certificate on Thursday.
Speaking of Thursday, this coming Thursday is the
last day of the Spring Training league. Take your army out for one
final test run before the big event.
Final preparation are underway for the first Matchplay
Rogue Trader Tournament this Saturday (June 7th). We're putting
the finishing touches on some terrain. Check-in starts at 9am. If
you haven't signed up yet, sign up today.

Last
Thursday to get ready for our June 7th Rogue Trader Tourney, we
tested the capacity of our favorite store and had 10 games going
at the same time. That must be some sort of record. But we think
we can squeeze in some more.
And not only did we have quantity, but there was
also quality with new terrain grass mats, new trees and the new
league. If you haven't done so already, come check it out. The Spring

Also we can use all the help we can get, so if

The biggest news in the Hellfish files is the announcement
of our first ever Rogue Trader Tournament to be held on Saturday,
June 7th at Matchplay. Get more info here.
To gear up for this event the new league has been adjusted. The
current league will start Thursday the 24th. The first four weeks
will be to hone your list, and the following three weeks will be
quick competition with a set list. And best of all, league dues
for this will cover your entry into the Rogue Trader Tournament
as well.
Speaking of Rogue Trader Tournaments, Donovan showed
the guys at Scenario Hobby in Fremont just how fightingest the Fighting
Hellfish are. This past weekend, he competed and got a perfect win
record. Too bad they didn't have a best general award.
In other news, at Matchplay, Pat, David & Dan are working on
a massive table-- complete with a two foot tall mountain-- for Plasmaball
Run that will be appearing at Kublacon & Games Day L.A. The
rules for Plasmaball Run have been refined, and will soon be ready
for playtest- keep your ears peeled if you would like to be one
of the first racers on the starting line.
